When Visiting Oak Ridge National Laboratories

Just a Hop off the Interstate

February 2006:
If you happen to be cruising along Interstate 40 through Tennessee, please take a moment to visit one of the most pustulent zits in the east US. Actually, the view is not unpleasant on the tour I recommend.

Take exit 364, Hwy 95 North. A mile up the road, you will cross the Tennessee River. Immediately after the bridge, one can turn right if one wants to pause at the scenic boat ramp, open to the public and usually deserted in the winter, anyway. From that point, one can conveniently hurl environmental mitigation devices (check local laws first for any needed permits).
Perhaps for this reason, there is now a reactor where the red dot is. (All the red dots are reactors.)

A bit further north, one crosses a pond...

Unfortunately, for national security reasons, you will not be permitted to turn right into the lab area itself. But take heart: there is an underground base conveniently located right under the public highway (as approximately outlined in beige). This whole area has a uniform level of DOR. This level has been suppressed lately by a few dozen agnihotra ash mudballs that fell out my window.
